The Bell Witch Fall Festival celebrates the stories of local history and legend. The five week festival boasts three staged productions beginning with the acclaimed musical SMOKE: A Ballad of the Night Riders, which stories the tobacco wars of the early 1900s, our one day production of Red River Tales, featuring the all new variety show The Bell Witch Opry Revue, and the grand finale, the haunting, nail-biting masterpiece of SPIRIT: The Authentic Story of the Bell Witch of Tennessee.

Eric BradleyWe are still fairly new to Nashville/Tennessee so this was our first trip out to see Spirit. I love how unique this is for a theatrical experience. It was spooky, but not too scary for kids (we noticed a fair number of little ones and they all seemed to be enjoying it all). The set and outdoor (but covered) theater space they created here is pretty cool. It really feels like you are in a barn or old cabin. It may not be immersive, but it's close. While I felt like the script jumps around a bit, the cast, direction, lighting and sound were impressive (minus a few technical glitches at the performance we caught which I attributed to some high winds and an incoming rainstorm). Oh, and they thought up some cool special effects. The festival sounds like it grows every year. When we went, there was a band (bluegrass, maybe?) playing on a stage near the entrance. You could take a seat on a bale of hay and take in some live music. A merch area with lots of Bell Witch clothing and miscellaneous items was inside the main building, and they had a lot of history posted in there as well, along with a photo op. Outside, maybe six food trucks/stands served barbeque, apple cider doughnuts, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, etc. Prices were very reasonable. We look forward to returning next year to see Smoke since we missed that one this time, and to see what changes they have in store.

JoshThis was a 10 put of 10. The venue is awesome, the people are friendly and the play itself was phenomenal. This is going to become a new yearly family tradition!

Christie RothThis was such an enjoyable experience, and I felt like I had entered into a Stars Hollowesque sort of town. They had a cute gift shop area where you could purchase mugs and shirts and other small gift able items, along with deserts, coffee, and hot apple cider. Once you went further into the venue, you were able to view and step inside the actual Bell House, which was incredible. The play itself was actually very enjoyable! The cast was amazing and entertaining and really nailed the essence of the story of the Bell Witch. We will definitely be back!

Crystal ArellanoThis was my first time seeing Smoke and only second time seeing Spirit. Both plays were fantastic. The cast and crew were amazing! I love that they had food vendors. There were plenty of food options including sweet treats and yummy hot chocolate and apple cider. They made the outdoor event so beautiful! I can’t wait to go again next year. Always check the weather before you go. This is an outdoor event. Bringing a blanket during those cooler nights will keep you comfy!
