In the last post, we talked about what it takes to be a sustainable small town. Let’s see how Springfield measures up!
Downtown Springfield is approximately 26 miles from downtown Nashville, TN. Another factor that further insulates Springfield from being overrun or over commercialized is the fact that Springfield is 10 miles from the interstate.
You’ll see when you arrive, downtown Springfield is centered around a splendid old courthouse. The downtown area of Springfield is constantly gaining more businesses and restaurants that add to the already established charm. These restaurants are locally owned and, as an added bonus to supporting the local economy, a number of them get their inventory and stock from local farms. The area immediately around downtown has neighborhood areas filled with historic homes.
There are a litany of activities in and around Springfield that accomplish the goal keeping residents in town as well as drawing in outsiders. Close to Springfield, there is Beaman Park for some good hiking, that you can take your four legged buddy to. There is also Honeysuckle Hill Farm that has a ton of activities and various events throughout the year that are fun for the whole family and people from all walks of life. In the downtown area, there are a number of shops and restaurants that make for a lovely walk around.

Long story short, the small town is still alive and strong.
